RE: Temporary Emergency Overnight Winter Shelter Update
Bottom Line: Temporary overnight winter shelters for men and woman, located at Catholic Charities (460
Linden Center Dr.) and the Fort Collins Rescue Mission’s Blue Spruce Temporary Shelter (1301 Blue
Spruce), are now scheduled to begin on Monday, November 2 and operate through April 2021. These
temporary shelter sites are necessitated by reduced capacity due to physical distancing requirements as a
result of the COVID-19 emergency and will serve over 200 persons experience homelessness.
Updated Start Date
The service providers operating the shelters have established a start date of November 2.
In order to fully serve both men and women, the shelters must work in coordination to launch on the
same day; the Blue Spruce Temporary Shelter is close to completion and Catholic Charities is
currently waiting on delivery and set up of their outdoor shelter.
Men’s Shelter at Blue Spruce
Men’s temporary shelter will be located at 1301 Blue Spruce and operated by the Fort Collins
Rescue Mission from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
This site will allow proper physical distancing protocols, will provide an ADA-accessible portable
restroom trailer, and have on-site security during its busiest hours.
The City is providing $225,000 in financial support via both CARES and CDBG-CV funding.
The site will be able to serve 150 men (with some room to expand if needed).
Women’s Shelter at Catholic Charities
Women’s temporary shelter will be located at and operated by Catholic Charities from
5:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
There will be a temporary shelter structure in the parking lot with added port-a-potties and temporary
fencing; this will serve as a staging area while women get checked in and wait for a meal.
The City is providing $95,000 in financial support via both CARES and CDBG-CV funding.
This site will be able to serve 54 women plus families.

The City and partners continue to search for a day shelter site to serve people experiencing
homeless during the winter season as day shelter capacity at the Murphy Center has been reduced
due to COVID-19 physical distancing requirements.
The City is working with service providers on an emergency plan in case of inclement weather in
October, before temporary overnight winter shelters are open.
