In July, the City Manager decided to continue the Watch through the summer, when water demands are greatest due to irrigation. With the irrigation season coming to a close, the Interim City Manager has signed a declaration ending the Watch (attached), effective Oct 1 (expected publication date for the declaration is Sept 30). Next Steps: Staff will develop an internal after-action Water Shortage Watch report to evaluate the effectiveness of the Watch and provide a guidance document for future efforts. This report will include an analysis on any water use reductions that might have occurred from the Watch and results from a City staff and public survey that will be released Oct 1. Through various leading up to Oct 1. Potential droughts and water quality impacts resulting from both the East Troublesome and Cameron Peak wildfires may require water shortage response efforts in the years to come. The public can stay updated on the status of our water quality and supply at fcgov.com/water-status. Staff will continue to: 1) Share information and identify collaboration opportunities with local and regional providers on both water shortage and watershed recovery efforts. 2) Monitor water quality and work to improve future water availability by pursuing watershed recovery actions and associated funding opportunities. 3) Continue to provide safe, high-quality drinking water by managing our two water sources and our treatment processes.
