BACKGROUND Small Business Saturday is a shopping holiday celebrated every Saturday after Black Friday (Friday after Thanksgiving). American Express created the event in 2010 to encourage consumers to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to local main street businesses that offer unique products and services. Each year, Small Business Saturday’s coordinated events across the country encourage a unique opportunity to introduce community members to local small businesses. Last year many retailers, including the National Retail Federation, promoted early shopping, to help spread out the holiday shopping season. Encouraging community members to not only shop on one major shopping holiday will help prevent large gatherings of people, keeping businesses, employees, and customers safe again this year. Consequently, we are transforming the concept of Small Business Saturday into Small Business Season, which will start early-November. INVITATION The Economic Health Office would like to invite the Mayor and each Councilmember to visit (2-3) small businesses within their district. The visit would include the opportunity to meet and learn more about the small business followed by a photo with the business owner. These photos will be shared through a series of social media posts that will be posted on all City platforms between early-November to late-December. The Economic Health Office will coordinate with the small businesses to schedule a time that aligns with the corresponding Councilmember’s schedule. All visits will follow the recommended safety measures. If you are interested in participating in this year’s Small Business Season, please contact Sarah Kane, skane@fcgov.com or (970) 416-2447 by Friday, October 1, 2021.
