RE: Save the Date Community Welcome 2021
The City of Fort Collins and Colorado State University will host the 21st annual Community
Welcome event on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 5:00 - 8:30 p.m. Remarks will take place
from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. and are traditionally given by the Mayor of Fort Collins and the President
of Colorado State University.
What is Community Welcome?
The goal of the program is to help foster a sense of community and connection between
students and long-term Fort Collins residents. Occurring on the first Wednesday of classes
(August 25, 2021), approximately 200 volunteers -- consisting of CSU students and staff, city
employees, local residents, and Fort Collins and CSU police -- walk around selected
neighborhoods around campus and distribute information to students on noise, trash, public
nuisance, occupancy, and snow ordinances, as well as off-campus parties, the riot law, and the
importance of forming strong, positive relationships with neighbors. Community Welcome is truly
a collaborative effort. A number of CSU and City personnel and offices are involved in the
event. The organizing committee is comprised of members from the CSU Vice President for
Student Affairs Office, Off-Campus Life, Fort Collins Neighborhood Services Office, CSU Police
Department, and Fort Collins Police Services. Community Welcome is seen as a model
program across the nation for community building and several communities have inquired about
duplicating our efforts in their own college town.
