On March 23, 2021, staff presented a high-level overview of the Wastewater Utility to City Council as the first update in a series of annual updates on each of the four incumbent utilities to assure alignment with strategic direction and understanding of system needs of each of the utilities. The Water Utility Overview was presented on June 8, 2021. The overviews included a summary of customer satisfaction survey results, the infrastructure system, challenges and opportunities to the system, financial status and a snapshot of the people that make the service happen. Council feedback on the Wastewater Overview included support for addressing the challenges facing the wastewater system including addressing aging infrastructure, increasing regulatory requirements for environmental performance of the system, customer engagement in programs , as well as support for o including methane recovery and beneficial uses of nutrients as soil amendments at Meadow Springs Ranch. Feedback received on the Water Utility Overview included support for incorporating a graywater program into our water management programs, leveraging federal funding programs to address water infrastructure needs, continuing to look at the pace of asset replacement, and considering a realignment of budget offers for treatment and distribution of water to the Safe Community versus Environmental Health budgeting outcome area. Staff appreciates the direction, feedback and questions.
