Bottom Line:
City Attorney Carrie Daggett and I have spent several weeks in dialogue about the growing
workload plus the anticipated demands for legal work associated with Land Use Code, the
Equity Office, and the Housing Strategic Plan, to name a few, have led us to a consensus
conclusion to create 1 additional full-time position in CAO for an additional assistant city
attorney.
ongoing Budget for Outcomes (BFO) offers
for 2022 and beyond at an estimated annualized cost of $152,000. For purposes of 2021, the
estimated cost is $102,000. Staff will identify a savings opportunity within existing Council-
authorized General Fund appropriations in order to offset the added cost of the position. The
savings around certain costs such as professional development and staff travel. As a result, staff
will flexibly identify savings throughout the remaining 10 months of the year in a manner that
will not lead to an impact to community service levels yet will ensure there is funding available
for this position.
