Box 580 Fort Collins, CO 80522.0580 970.416.2740 970.224.6134- fax fcgov.com Planning, Development & Transportation Services MEMORANDUM DATE: September 23, 2020 TO: Mayor Troxell and City Councilmembers THRU: Darin Atteberry, City Manager Kelly DiMartino, Deputy City Manager Caryn Champine, Director of Planning, Development & Transportation Paul Sizemore, Interim Community Development Neighborhood Services Director Marcy Yoder, Neighborhood Services Manager FROM: JC Ward, Senior City Planner, Neighborhood Services RE: Neighborhood Night Out 2020 ______________________________________________________________________ This memo provides information on the modified plans for Neighborhood Night Out due to public health concerns related to COVID-19. Neighborhood Night Out will look and feel different than ever before. The national organizing body for Neighborhood Night Out recommended postponement from the usual first Tuesday in August to the first Tuesday in October to support evolving public health recommendations. This year for Neighborhood Night Out on October 6th, the City of Fort Collins is asking neighbors to connect in a way that gets back to the roots of National Night Out as a demonstration of safe streets. Neighbors are asked to turn on porchlights and take a stroll around the block to get to know the people in their neighborhood. Getting to know neighbors’ names and families builds communication channels so residents know who to ask for help in their neighborhood if they need it. Other ideas for COVID-safe activities for Neighborhood Night Out are available for residents at www.fcgov.com/neighborhoodservices/neighborhoodnightout. To align with recommendations limiting the size of public gatherings from the Larimer County Health Department, visits from City Council, City Leadership, Police Services, and Poudre Fire Authority are not scheduled for the 2020 event. Neighborhoods are asked to share only prepackaged snacks and to maintain physical distancing of at least six feet during Neighborhood Night Out. Neighborhoods can register their event with the City to help with contact tracing and program data collection. Neighborhood Services staff welcomes any questions or suggestions.
