MEMORANDUM
Date: August 28, 2020
To: Mayor and City Councilmembers
Thru: Darin Atteberry, City Manager
Kelly DiMartino, Deputy City Manager
John Stokes, Interim Director Community Services
From: Bob Adams, Recreation Director
Re: Update on Reopening of Recreation Facilities
The purpose of this memo is to provide an update regarding the recent reopening of recreation
facilities, as well as information about participation and fall facility schedules. An update
previously was provided on June 18.
Since facilities began to reopen in June, year-over-year participation from June through August
decreased by approximately 75%. Despite this downturn, there are encouraging signs of
renewal, including substantial enrollment in Camp FunQuest at the Northside Atzlan Center
and near at-capacity use of EPIC for swimming and ice related activities.
Staff continue to monitor Recreation’s financial situation and will adjust as needed to align
revenue with operational costs. It is likely that further operational changes will need to be made
this fall and perhaps in early 2021.
