To City Manager and City Council:
The tax payers of North Fort Collins (NFC) have over 1,000 signed petitions
against the Homeless Center at 1311 North College. About one year ago we learned of
the plan for Bohemia build a homeless campus. Councilman Jeff got the credit for the
plan. Now that he is gone, who will take credit for wanting to do the same thing at the
Food Bank? This is not right, the people in NFC deserve better. We know if the center
is at the Food Bank, it will be there for years, not months. The residents don’t feel safe
in this area. They don’t want to live in fear. NFC is the lowest income area in Fort
Collins. The “rich” part of the city needs to help out with this problem. We have been
the dumping ground for forty years. We have worked hard to help NFC with Project
Smile (Coats and Boots). We want the best for the residents in NFC. We care, which is
more than can be said for City Council.
The Northside AZTLAN Center, for example, how has that turned out? I asked
Wade what it cost to fix it up. He said it was costly but didn’t know how much. City
Council could not give me a total cost. I think they should not cover it up. They should
tell the tax payers, we need to know. This is the writing on the wall. What will happen
at the Food Bank? The City did all this without NFC knowing anything about what they
were planning. They said they would never do this again. We need to be able to trust
the city, not find out later. The people who signed the petitions don’t trust the City.
Who is doing all these crazy things? I hope the City Council will look at the old Fort
Ram. Bohemian may give it to the homeless free, until April next year!
This is not a NFC problem, it’s a City problem. I think you should delay decisions
for 30 days to allow concerned residents the time to prove how bad the plan is for NFC.
Relocationg a problem will only make it worse. We have been living with the homeless
problem for over 40 years, it has not improved. The Council should do what is right,
not make things worse.
Hopefully, the tax payers will remember this in April 2021.
Sincerely,
Don Butler
