Re: City Pools and Splash Pads
Bottom Line
The purpose of this memo is to provide an update about the status of the City’s swimming pools and
splash pads. Several Recreation facilities are open with modified hours and limited programming, but all
pools, apart from Edora Pool (EPIC), remain closed. There are three City-owned splash pads in various
locations that are closed, two will open shortly and the Old Town Square splash pad opened this week.
City Park Pool will not open this summer. Mulberry and Senior Center Pools will remain closed through
the end of August.
Background
City Park Pool (CPP) will remain closed for the summer season. Current public health guidelines
allow only 50 users at one time and require physical distancing. City Park Pool typically generates
positive revenue; however, given the late start and health guidelines it would operate at a
substantial loss were it to be reopened now.
Mulberry Pool and Senior Center Pool will remain closed through the month of August. At that
time, staff will evaluate the feasibility of opening one or both of the facilities based on the status
of public health requirements, along with the financial and operational considerations. EPIC will
remain open for lap swimming.
Splash Pads located at Spring Canyon Park and Fossil Creek Park will open for the summer. The
Oak Street Plaza will remain closed. The Old Town Square splash pad, financed by the Downtown
Development Authority and maintained by the City, reopened this week. Signage will be posted
limiting the number of users at one time. Splash pads will remain operational through Labor Day.
Next Steps
A press release and social media will be posted this week to alert the public to these updates. Should
public health guidelines change with further limitations, the amenities may be reevaluated or closed.
