RE: School Resource Officer Contract Update
The annual intergovernmental agreement between Fort Collins Police Services and the Poudre School
District (PSD) Board of Education was scheduled to go before the Board of Education on June 9, 2020.
The Board postponed the vote until June 23, 2020 and asked for additional work to be done on the
contract and during the coming year. Poudre School District and Police Services staff have met and
discussed positive changes to the contract and the program to allow for additional input and
accountability in the program.
The following items have been added to the agreement:
A formal process will be created for gathering comments about interactions with School
Resource Officers.
A regular evaluation of the program will be conducted by PSD and Police Services supervisors at
which time data on School Resource Officer activities and enforcement actions will be reviewed.
A community Advisory Council will be created to provide feedback about the SRO program,
review the operation of the program and discuss any potential changes to the program.
Members from the community, PSD and law enforcement will be appointed by the PSD
Superintendent to serve on this Council.
We believe that the adding these items to the agreement is a positive step toward continuously
improving the School Resource Officer program, and we look forward to working with PSD to better
evaluate the program in the coming year.
