Re: Work Session Summary – March 27, 2018 re: West Nile Virus (WNV) Policy and
Response Plan Review
Introduction
Council was provided an overview of the WNV program, the annual off season review
and options for adult mosquito control thresholds. Mayor Pro Tem Horak was
participating by phone, all other councilmembers were present.
Project Details
A high level overview of the program was provided including the integrated pest
management approach recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. The off
season review revealed new research on latent effects of WNV and split support from
the Technical Advisory Panel for changes to the thresholds for adult mosquito control.
The staff recommendation would reduce the Vector Index to 0.50 and remove human
case considerations as a threshold.
Themes of Discussion
Appreciative of the work of the Technical Advisory Committee.
Continue work related to public outreach, personal accountability, and larval
management programs
Specific Meeting Direction
Attempt to add a WNV victim to the Technical Advisory Committee.
Investigate the potential of a regional mosquito control district.
Research the opportunity to interact with the One Health Institute at Colorado
State University.
