2017 was a year of progress and transformation for Poudre River
Public Library District. My career in public libraries has shown
me that curiosity is a key quality in everyday life and solving
everyday problems. It’s the grandmother who wants
to figure out Snapchat so she can see videos of her children
and grandchildren. It is that young adult considering college
and career. It’s the nonprofit administrator who needs guidance
in applying for a grant. It’s anyone of any age searching for
their next great read.
Curiosity is the power that drives our everyday explorations into topics of
interest and often leads us to the Library, where everyone can connect to
curiosity. These connections happen every hour we are open, which makes
the Poudre River Public Library District the center for community learning.
We are resolute in our support of free and equal access for all. We believe
in equality of service and we respect individual diversity and welcome all
members of our community. We all deserve the opportunity to develop our
thinking, improve our abilities, and rekindle our passions without limitations
or bias. In this age of “fake news”, the Library’s commitment to information
literacy is more relevant than ever before.
In 2018, I hope you will continue to connect to curiosity by attending digital
literacy classes, the FoCo Book Festival, nationally known author visits, and
so much more.
As we contemplate the accomplishments of the Poudre River Public Library
District in 2017 and look forward to 2108 and all it holds, it is important to
remember that public libraries are a reflection of the community they serve.
Thank you to our valued patrons, staff, Friends of the Library, Library Trust,
donors, volunteers, and Board of Trustees.
