Web blog post. 2017 Shelton Group Inc., 27 July 2017. https://sheltongrp.com/posts/the-energy-efficiency-model-for-utilities Shelton Group, a leading marketing communications firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee that focuses exclusively on energy and the environment, publishes a weekly blog and other digital content that is viewed by national industry leaders. Fort Collins Utilities was recently highlighted in the blog as a “company that is on the leading edge” of energy efficiency. Specifically, the article highlights how Utilities implemented strategies to overcome customer barriers by simplifying the home energy improvement process, which increased program participation and energy savings. These strategies included targeted marketing tactics for increased program enrollment, collaboration with local contractors to establish quality installation standards and best pricing for customers, and good/better/best installation package options for customers to choose. Utilities piloted the new approach with revised strategies in 2016 and, due to its success, incorporated into the Efficiency Works – Home program offering in 2017. Also noted in the blog is a link to a new Department of Energy Better Buildings case study highlighting Fort Collins Utilities’ use of community-based social marketing. This national recognition of this innovative and successful efficiency program brings with it continued focus on the City‘s energy and climate goals, our ongoing focus on continuous improvement and may also spur additional business interest in supporting the community to reach our goals.
