HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport - Mail Packet - 5/30/2017 - Information From Poudre Fire Authority Chief Tom Demint Re: Pfa Annual Report 2016The Poudre Fire Authority is proud to serve the communities of Fort Collins, Timnath, Laporte, Bellvue and surrounding
areas with prompt, skillful and caring service. Our men and women strive every day to serve you based on our values of
Courage, Leadership and Duty.
• This past year was one of growth for PFA, keenly illustrated by the decision to deploy full-time firefighters at Station 8 in
Timnath, formerly served for decades by dedicated volunteers. Station 8 serves the southeast portion of our jurisdiction,
which includes southeast Fort Collins, the Town of Timnath, a major portion of Interstate 25 and surrounding areas. Our
firefighters deployed from the existing volunteer station in downtown Timnath as they awaited the construction of a new
station at 4800 Signal Tree Drive. Having firefighters available 24/7 significantly reduced response times throughout the
area.
• Even as the 2016 PFA call-volume increased, the organization saw a small reduction in our emergency response times.
This not only demonstrates PFA’s dedication to excellence in the service we provide, but also a grand sense of collaboration
with our partners at Fort Collins 911 and UCHealth EMS.
• As we strive to be driven by positive outcomes, PFA has maintained its accredited status through the Commission on Fire
Accreditation International. Through these efforts, we ensure that we are measuring important aspects of the service we
deliver. Positive outcomes are as important to our citizens as they are to us, and accreditation is an excellent tool to
determine how we can improve to provide better outcomes.
• This past year brought with it a significant amount of construction throughout the community. New residential
construction, further development of Foothills Mall, a new downtown hotel and numerous new buildings on the CSU
campus, including a new football stadium, has kept our Fire Prevention staff incredibly busy ensuring that buildings are safe
before members of the public ever step a foot inside.
• PFA also continues to reach out to the community to provide educational opportunities to reduce the risks faced by the
more than 200,000 citizens we serve. By providing life-safety education to school-aged children, the aging community and
other targeted populations, the Community Safety and Service Division actively works to prove that Ben Franklin was right
when he said, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
I share this at a time when PFA has released its 2016 annual report. This year, you’ll see that we’ve done a few things
differently, as we work to improve how we tell PFA’s story and demonstrate the returns on investments made by our
taxpayers. We’ve put together a succinct and comprehensive six-panel annual report that’s focused on our people and what
we do. The hope is that this version will be more easily digestible.
People also have access to an online version at www.pfaannualreport.com, which links to a statistical report, the annual
budget and myriad more information for those who want to delve deeper.
