2016 was a year of progress and transformation for Poudre River Public Library District.
On the local stage, the Library continues to play an important role
in citizens’ lives and like all libraries nationwide, responds to the
dramatic changes in the ways people make use of their libraries. In
this shifting landscape, one of the questions I am most frequently
asked is “How will libraries stay relevant?”
As promised in our 2016-2018 Strategic Plan, we will continue to
be a hub for community learning where patrons of all backgrounds
can gather to share, learn, and grow. Our library managers and their staff have been
empowered to become more involved in their specific communities, seeking out
new opportunities for engagement and making recommendations for programs and
services that meet the specific needs of their unique library users. This approach has
resulted in more creative and engaging programs and services across the District.
Poudre River Public Library District remains an important player in the region’s
continuum of learning and inspiration, providing books, magazines, movies, and music
in the ways people want them—both traditional formats and from our growing digital
and streaming collections. We continue to serve as a sustaining resource by supporting
lifelong and lifewide learning starting with babies’ early literacy and continuing
through their growth as job seekers and small business entrepreneurs, ensuring
continuity in our commitment to service, and providing a much needed comfortable
space where everyone may enrich their lives.
The Library also continues to see ourselves in terms of our mission: “The Poudre River
Public Library District provides universal access to ideas and information to enrich our
communities.” We are the “People’s University,” the center of learning and connection
for a diverse and inclusive community. We also see ourselves in terms of the promise
of our future. There are so many wonderful things happening in our region, and we are
proud to be part of that excitement and energy. Thanks to your continued support and
involvement, we look with optimism toward the future!
