RE: Appropriate Use of Public Space Proposed Ordinance
We would like to share our sincere thanks for a thoughtful conversation regarding the appropriate use
of public space in our community. Visit Fort Collins appreciates the City’s efforts to continually work
towards comprehensive solutions encompassing a balance of compassion and consequences.
It is with a balanced approached that residents, visitors and businesses can be successful and truly
enjoy a positive experience in our core Downtown area. As a key destination within Fort Collins,
Downtown and Old Town are influential in its impact throughout our community.
We support activities and actions that assist in delivering a safe, inviting and welcoming place for all.
We respectfully suggest the following items for consideration with the ordinance:
Expand the enforcement zone to include the River District and Old Town’s enhanced alleyways.
Emphasize access to public spaces and access to right-of way corridors such as sidewalks, store
fronts, loading zones, public transit kiosk, parks and plazas.
Emphasize the proper and intended use of public space features. For example a bench is
intended for sitting and resting but not for long term storage of unattended personal property.
Adoption of these regulations as a 1 year pilot program.
We agree with Council’s decision to eliminate time limitations from the ordinance.
We fully support adoption of an ordinance ensuring a vibrant Downtown. An ordinance that provides
the framework to assist in delivering enjoyable experiences for residents and visitors; and one that
provides an opportunity for businesses to thrive.
Thank you for your consideration and dedication to ensure Fort Collins is a welcoming destination.
Sincerely,
Visit Fort Collins
