Dear State Historical Fund,
I fully support the Heritage Culturist Program by the Poudre Heritage Alliance, which serves the
Cache la Poudre River National Heritage Area.
The Heritage Culturist Program, a volunteer ambassador program, has experienced increased
public interest in the interpretation of our heritage areas. As a result of the outpouring of support
from the public for these programs, there needs to be more recruiting of new volunteers to
broaden the outreach of the program. The mission of the Poudre Heritage Alliance is to raise
awareness and understanding through sharing knowledge of the history of Larimer and Weld
County western water law and the doctrine of Prior Appropriation.
Additional volunteers will help improve the quality of programming to the public by sharing and
preserving our rich history about the Poudre River, Native American tribes, key historical sites,
irrigation systems, agriculture, industry, and significant people who helped shape our region and
world on water.
The award of this grant will help to support the recruitment and training of new volunteers in the
Heritage Culturist Program. The addition of volunteers will allow Poudre Heritage Alliance to
work on more interpretive projects at the many historical sites in Fort Collins and throughout the
Poudre Heritage area. Activities would include public outreach, outdoor educational activities,
media, schools and festivals.
Sincerely,
Bob Overbeck
