• SH 7 to SH 66 Environmental Assessment – 1994
• North Front Range Transportation Alternatives Feasibility Study
(2001) – HOV lane Denver to Ft. Collins
• Construction Projects – Total $300M
• Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) – 2011- Managed lane-toll
express
• Maintenance - $10 million/ year for last 10 years
Accomplishments and Progress
• Constructing US 36 to 120th
• Interim Project - Adding a Managed Lane
• Express Bus Service beginning in Spring 2015
• Harmony to Denver Union Station
• Four round trips / day
• CDOT Region Four received $90 million in Responsible Acceleration
of Maintenance and Partnerships (RAMP) funding for I-25
• This funding presents an opportunity to accelerate
improvements along the corridor
Current Activity
• RAMP Funds
• $55 million to add a managed lane from 120th Avenue North
• In Design and ROW Phases
• Construction beginning 2015
• $35 million for Crossroads Interchange bridges
• Complete by December, 2017
• MPO and CDOT Funds
• Design and Construct Climbing Lane at Berthoud Hill
• MPO also participating with $2 million in Crossroads Project
• Designing interim and final location improvements from SH 66 to SH 14
Current Activity
EIS Preferred Alternative
• Phased Implementation
• Ultimate Configuration includes:
• Three general purpose travel lanes from US 36 to SH 7
• One managed, tolled express lane
• Express Bus Service
What is a managed tolled express lane?
• A managed lane has operational strategies to provide travel reliability,
flexibility in responding to changing conditions
• Strategies include tolling and HOV requirements
• TC adopted Managed Lanes Policy Directive requires consideration of
managed lanes to address congestion
• Current fiscal condition limits funding availability from state
The plan for the future
Construction Costs
Costs for Phase 1, to reconstruct two lanes and add one managed lane,
from 120th north to SH 14 range from $1,076 to $1,126
