Subject: Regional Training Facility - Other Possible Capital Partners
Darin,
During the August 23, 2014 Council work session on the budget a question was asked concerning the
possibility of other capital partners for the Public Safety Regional Training Facility. During the past
several months of planning we (Fort Collins and Loveland) have been engaged in conversations with all
of the law enforcement entities in northern Colorado. As detailed in the business plan, many are eager
to be user agencies but to date none expressed the interest/ability to come onboard as a capital
partner. At the August 23rd meeting I was specifically directed to check with Weld County. Luke Hecker
(Chief of Police, Loveland) contacted the Weld County Sheriff’s Department in order once again gauge
interest. Undersheriff Jack McGrath, speaking on behalf of Sheriff John Cooke, reiterated that they were
not interested in becoming a capital partner at this time.
It should be noted that the timeline of this project does not preclude the possibility of additional capital
partners coming onboard before final design is done and construction begins should sentiments or
situations change among our law enforcement peers.
