Collins - Council Sar #24184 (Agenda Item # 3)1 Debra Unger From: Debra Unger on behalf of Darin Atteberry Sent: Tuesday, October 29, 2013 1:25 PM To: 'food@ods-sports.com' Cc: Gerry Horak; Darin Atteberry; Diane Jones; City Council; Bob Adams; Marty Heffernan; Wendy Williams Subject: RE: Youth and Adult Recreation.....Qdoba Events Center...South Fort Collins (Council SAR #24184) Good afternoon, Mr. Olbrys, Thank you for contacting the Mayor and members of City Council regarding the Qdoba Events Center. Please see the following information provided by Recreation Director Bob Adams on behalf of the City leaders: ~~~~~ Thank you for following up on the South East Community Recreation and Arts Center Study. You contacted me about this in June and I explained the Recreation Department continues to try to offer programming opportunities at your facility, but our programming has only been moderately successful. I also shared how the Community Recreation and Arts Center Study was identified in the 2008 Parks and Recreation Policy Plan and funded in the 2013/14 Budgeting for Outcomes process. The Parks and Recreation Policy Plan listed a recreation/arts center at Fossil Creek Park as a key opportunity for the City to improve the level of service provided to the community. Our work with the consultant included a needs assessment, community outreach, feasibility plan, estimated construction cost and schematic drawings for a facility at Fossil Creek Park. It resulted in a facility concept very different from the Qdoba Center. At Council’s request, we looked at a number of sites in addition to the Fossil Creek Park site. This included a 26-acre site adjacent to your facility located on Smokey Street. We are not recommending this site because staff and the consultants believe it is significantly inferior to the Fossil Creek Park site, the SE Park site and a site west of Fossil Ridge High School. However, if the site adjacent to your facility is supported by City Council, there could be further discussion on how we could possibly collaborate on a joint facility. If you have any additional questions or concerns or would like to discuss this further, please contact Bob Adams, Recreation Director at 221-6354 of badams@fcgov.com ~~~~~ Regards, Debra Unger Executive Administrative Assistant City Manager's Office Fort Collins, Colorado Click here to Tell Me About My Service ... Established in 1995 we have served the community as a private facility for youth and Adult Sports, including inline hockey, Volleyball, indoor soccer and a gathering place for youth. We have partnered many times with Fort Collins Recreation in the past. Currently, we do have available time and space and would be considered underutilized. I wanted to make sure Council considers our facility an option in planning any addition recreational opportunities in the future.
