I wanted to give you a quick heads-up to let you (and Council, if appropriate) know that we have started initial planning for the Sesquicentennial. Over the coming months a community committee will develop plans for a year-long celebration. I'm certain there will be opportunities and requests for involvement from you, the Mayor and City Council. We'll share updates as those plans come together. A key component of this celebration will be a community-focused exhibit at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery called "Fort Collins 150 - Celebrating our Stories." Later this week, we'll begin a promotional effort to solicit ideas from the community to be included in the exhibit. An overview of the exhibit concept is attached. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Kelly Kelly DiMartino Assistant City Manager City of Fort Collins, CO (970)416-2028 (office) (970)217-3293 (cell) As part of the 150th Anniversary of Fort Collins the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery is planning an exhibit celebrating the stories that make Fort Collins the special place it is. To do this correctly, however, FCMoD will be asking for the Community’s help. What makes Fort Collins Fort Collins? That’s the question that will be posed to the public. It could be: a person, a thing, an invention, a business, an idea, an innovation, an event little-known to famous to infamous from before Fort Collins was a city to just yesterday a success or a failure or something whose outcome is still being decided The only thing that matters is that it is a story of Fort Collins. FCMoD has some ideas, but we want to hear from the community. Anyone can nominate a story and there are numerous ways to do that: in person at FCMoD on-line at our website www.fcmod.org/fc150 visiting FCMoD representatives at community gatherings throughout the summer. A task force made up of FCMoD staff and community members will be selecting the stories from the nominations. The winning nominators will be asked to be a part of the exhibit as well; letting them tell in their own words why they nominated the story they chose. The FC150 exhibit will be located in the 5,000 square foot Woodward Special Exhibition Gallery and will be opening in the fall of 2014 in time to celebrate the 150th birthday of Fort Collins. FCMoD is committed to ensuring that our Museum is community focused and the FC150 exhibit will be a fun way for anyone who is interested to become a part of their Museum. For thousands of years people have called the area that is now Fort Collins home. Today we carry on the legacy of those who came before us in helping shape the town we live in. Through looking back at the stories that were instrumental in creating the Fort Collins we know today, perhaps there are lessons we can learn that will help Fort Collins continue to be a great place moving into the future.
