(Council SAR #22648) Darin, Save The Poudre requests that you move that building back away from the river. The need for "retaining walls" exemplifies the encroachment into unbuildable areas and too-steep slopes. Gary Darin Atteberry wrote: Good afternoon, Gary, Thank you for your inquiry concerning the proposed retaining walls for the Block One project. Please see the following information provided by Lindsay Ex, Senior Environmental Planner, on behalf of the City leaders: _____ 2 The river bank stabilization proposal for the Block One project does include two retaining walls (see attached graphics). In addition to the bioengineering, these walls were designed to achieve the goals outlined in the Poudre River Enhancement Project (see Figure 1) of stabilizing this bank of the Poudre River. As illustrated in Figures 2-4, the retaining walls are exposed above ground between 1'-7" and 2'-6" and are planted with extensive native plantings so that, once the vegetation is established, the walls will not be visible. Note that Figure 2 also shows the location of the walls within the exhibits provided to the Hearing Officer. Please let us know if you have any further questions we can help answer. _____ Regards, Debra Unger Executive Administrative Assistant City Manager's Office Fort Collins, Colorado Click here to Tell me about my service…I want to know! From: Gary Wockner [mailto:garywockner@comcast.net] Sent: Monday, June 03, 2013 3:34 PM To: City Leaders; Darin Atteberry; Craig Foreman Subject: No cement retaining walls in the Poudre River! Hello City Leaders, In your agenda item #28 for tomorrow night for Block One, it says there will be "decorative retaining walls" along or in the river. Can you confirm that this proposal is for cement retaining walls being poured into the river or right along the bank of the river? Below is the image that your staff presented during the legal, public hearing for this property. It shows a gradually sloped bank and cobbles and native landscaping along the river. Save The Poudre strongly opposes cement walling-in the Poudre River! DON'T DITCH THE POUDRE!
