Hello Ed,
Good to hear from you. Both recent Soapstone parcels were purchased in 2011 using City sales tax
revenues designated for Natural Areas and specifically for land conservation. The 280 acres cost a total of
$311,000 and both parcels are in Colorado; the City has not purchase any land in Wyoming. Both parcels
were inholdings in Soapstone, so it was very important that these parcels be conserved to avoid houses
being developed within Soapstone. As you pointed out being able to use the funds spend for these parcels
as matching funds for the grant is a double benefit.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Mark

Wanda: I was just reading information provided for the next city council meeting and was surprised to read the
following:
The City will use a recent acquisition of 280 acres at Soapstone Prairie Natural Area (Soapstone Prairie) as match
towards the grant, as well as management funds currently obligated in the Natural Areas Department (NAD) budget.
Using the funds already spent as match towards this grant is a great secondary benefit for the City.
Can you provide me the source of the funds and amount used to purchase another 280 acres of open lands, and was this section in
Colorado or Wyoming?
Kind regards
Ed Robert
