The Library District’s Board of Trustees are committed to providing for the interests of our residents, practicing responsible fiscal management and delivering quality services. It has been my pleasure to serve as the President of this Board for the last three years. In that time we have accomplished numerous technology improvements, upgrades at Old Town and Harmony Libraries, seen the rise in popularity of eBooks and taking part in some wonderful programs that get to the core of our mission. Our thanks to the commu- nity for believing so strongly in our public library and its future. The heart of the library is you, our customers; we are looking forward to getting to know you better and to give you what you need … we have knowledge, discovery and joy on loan. - Mike Liggett, President Oh what a difference six years makes. The Poudre River Public Library District is pleased to present to you this snapshot of the Library’s growth in ser- vices, collections and community engagement since becoming an independent Library District in 2007. Because of your belief that a strong public library is essential to our community, the Library District has what a difference a district makes! responded creatively, responsibly and effectively to provide universal access to information and ideas that meet the needs of the 21st century. As you peruse this annual report, note the significant progress and growth in: Access: • more information in traditional and digital formats • additional services virtually and inside and outside library walls Exchange of ideas and knowledge: • in-person, on-line and by phone • facilitated by library staff who are responsive to the needs of our community and who are recognized by their peers at state and national levels Innovation: • new technologies that meet the demands of a rapidly changing society • library spaces for quiet reflection, group study, learning and community programming • services that reach the non-traditional, geographically disadvantaged and underserved library user A successful library reflects the support and engagement of its community. Colorado Association of Libraries Julie J. Boucher Award for Intellectual Freedom Given to the Library District for the outreach efforts during the High Park Fire. PR Awards! Poudre River Public Library District won “Best in Show” Awards for the 2010 Web-based Annual Report and the video made for the Rafael Lopez Community Mural. These awards are presented by the American Library Association/PR and Marketing Division. Program Awards Board of the National Book Foundation awarded its fourth annual Innovations in Reading Prizes to five individuals and organizations that demonstrated passion, creativity, dedication, and lead- ership in the service of creating and sustaining a lifelong love of reading. The Library District was one of the five national winners for Bookends: A Television Program for Teens Who Like to Read. The IRS Bookends shows, hosted and presented by teens along with Poudre School District Channel 10 staff, allow teens to share reviews of favorite books and interview local young adult authors. ALA RUSA BRASS Morningstar Award Anne Macdonald was the 2012 recipient of the American Libraries Association RUSA BRASS Morningstar Public Librarian Support Award— the award is given to outstanding business reference librarians. She was awarded an American Libraries Association annual conference travel grant. Winning Entry -Lucky Joe’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade!
