May Re: Agenda Item #29 Policy For Developing Employer Business Assistance PackagesMarch 18, 2013 Fort Collins City Council 300 LaPorte Fort Collins, CO 80521 Dear Mayor Weitkunat, Mayor Pro Tem Ohlson and Council Members Horak, Kottwitz, Manvel, Poppaw and Troxell; The Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce encourages you to adopt the Policy for Developing Employer Business Assistance Packages. Fort Collins is a great home to primary employers but is certainly not the only location from which primary employers might choose to grow and expand. The Chamber views economic investments as a critical part in maintaining a competitive advantage in a very competitive world. Fort Collins needs a balanced framework policy, like the one proposed, to avoid creating impediments to primary employer success. The Policy for Developing Employer Business Assistance Packages allows the City to negotiate performance agreements with more confidence while providing the staff with additional resources to help local employers grow and stay in Fort Collins. We see this policy as a step towards making the city more attractive to existing and relocating businesses. Other tools that should be considered for the Economic Heath Office include a business investment pool and an in-depth conversation about the elimination of the Manufacturers Use Tax. We are pleased to see the City willing to invest in its economic future and the success of our primary employers. Sincerely, The Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce David L. May President & CEO
