To the Mayor and Fort Collins City Council,
I firmly object to a ballot measure that will ban hydraulic fracturing in Fort
Collins.
Enacting a ban on this technology or on oil and gas development means we
would be biting the hands that feed us. This industry is critical to Colorado. It
provides millions of dollars in tax revenue to the state and counties, keeps
unemployment numbers down and enables our state to create a comfortable
life for citizens.
A ban is totally unjustified because Colorado has never encountered a
problem with hydraulic fracturing, and this technology has been practiced
since the 1950's. The EPA also stands behind this technology, as well as the
Obama Administration.
Most importantly, we absolutely will face legal challenges by the Attorney
General and the Governor, as Longmont is proof. I urge you to rise above the
activist's influence and instead stick to the scientific evidence and do what is
right for the citizens in Fort Collins.
Sincerely, J i
