I am also opposed to the discussion of a ban, as the resulting implications will be profound. First of all, hydraulic fracturing is a proven technology and safe, according to the Obama Administration and the EPA. Out-of-state activists are using their pocketbooks and misguided personal agendas to influence our City and that is the only reason we are even discussing this issue. A ban on the technology will hinder a thriving industry, as hydraulic fracturing is mandatory to uncovering our resources trapped in shale formations. It is critical that our Council doesn't fall under the pressure of environmental groups who are pushing personal agendas. Our state is doing a great job at regulating the technology and the majority of citizens support the oil and gas industry because this industry provides a wealth of economic benefits to Colorado.
