HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport - Mail Packet - 07/15/2025 - Transfort 2024 Year in Review2024 was a year of celebration and growth for Transfort. In 2023, voters showed their commitment to a sustainable future by approving a half-cent sales tax increase aimed at bolstering our community’s parks and recreation, transit services and climate initiatives. This tax, which will be in place for the next 25 years, will generate crucial funding for transportation improvements, climate action and recreational enhancements. With the approval of this new sales tax, City Council has allocated $1.15 million to improve Transfort’s operations. Here’s what we accomplished in 2024: • Enhanced Bus Operator Positions: We implemented changes to enhance the quality of bus operator roles, aimed at boosting recruitment and retention. This includes pay increases and converting some hourly positions to classified-benefited roles, providing greater stability and support for our drivers. • We increased pay for front line staff including Dispatchers and Transit Service Officers. • New Safety & Security Positions: To ensure the safety of our riders and staff, we are adding new positions within our Safety & Security team. • Evening Service Expansion: We extended route service into the evenings on Routes 5, 14 and 18, making it easier for our community members to access transportation when they need it most. On Monday July 1, 1974, Transfort rolled out with three buses and three routes. The 16-passenger Mercedes Benz buses lined up at Oak Street Plaza and traveled as far south as the Foothills Fashion Mall (currently known as Foothills Mall). The first day saw an estimated 1,680 passengers. Ridership trends have fluctuated over the years as the needs of the community changed, our service area grew, and additional routes were added. Today, Transfort is proud to provide local and regional transportation on more than twenty routes. FTA GRANT AWARD In 2024, Transfort received a $2.4 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to fund projects which will improve accessibility infrastructure and comfort of bus stops in Transfort’s service area. The projects will be completed in collaboration with Colorado State University (CSU) to upgrade over 40 existing bus stops including stops on CSU’s Main and Foothills Campuses. Improvements will also include concrete infrastructure improvements and the purchase and installation of bus shelters, benches, and lighting. FARE-FREE TRANSIT! In 2024, City leaders granted final approval for Transfort to remain fare-free! After more than four years of providing free rides, this decision shows our commitment to ensuring that public transit is accessible and equitable for all residents. 2024 HIGHLIGHTS 1,500,000 2,000,000 2,500,000 3,000,000 25,000 40,000 30,000 35,000 2023 2024 75 100 125 150 BUS OPERATOR NUMBERS (JAN. 2023 - DEC. 2024) DIAL-A-RIDE RIDERSHIP TRANSFORT FUNDING City of Fort Collins 54% Federal Grants 26% Partnership contribution & misc. 14% State Grants 6% RIDERSHIP 83 to 109 UP 31% 29,584 to 35,582 UP 20.3% 2,051,927 to 2,619,418 UP 27.89%
