HomeMy WebLinkAboutMemo - Mail Packet - 9/19/2023 - Memorandum From Joanne Cech, Sarah Thomaz, And Sarah Meline Re: Updated Community Profile: Metrics By Council DistrictFinance Administration 215 N. Mason St PO Box 580 Fort Collins, CO 80522 970.221.6788 MEMORANDUM DATE: September 12, 2023 TO: Mayor and City Councilmembers THROUGH: Kelly DiMartino, City Manager Rupa Venkatesh, Assistant City Manager Travis Storin, Chief Financial Officer Blaine Dunn, Accounting Director FROM: Joanne Cech, Fiscal Recovery Manager Sarah Thomaz, Data Analyst Sarah Meline, Recovery Policy and Engagement Specialist SUBJECT: Updated Community Profile: Metrics by Council District In response to questions about the Fort Collins Community Profile shared with Council in August, staff reviewed and updated the report to fix errors and more accurately reflect Council district makeup. The goal of these metrics is to provide a better understanding of the unique profile of Council Districts, and how they compare to the demographic makeup of Fort Collins as a whole. Metrics in the report include population size, income level, educational attainment, housing and poverty rates. Please note the footnotes in the report, as they explain important details regarding the data. Updates: Staff made minor formatting changes to the report along with the updates below. Corrected the Percent Renter-Occupied percentages: The original report had an error that listed ownership rates rather than rentership rates. DocuSign Envelope ID: FC26550D-FEFD-4E9F-B4F1-B4C837392477 Changed disability information: The percent of population with a disability included in the original report was not accurate, and unfortunately accurate information of the percentage of population with a disability is not available at the district level due to privacy restrictions. However, the number of households reporting at least one member with a disability is available at a district level, so that variable is now provided for each district, giving an overview of disability rates within the City. Updated versions of this report will be provided after elections at the beginning of each new Council term. Future versions of the report may include additional data sources, although not all metrics are updated on the same cadence. Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback. ATTACHMENTS: 1.
