Approval of Minutes:
Councilmember Francis moved to approve the November 14 minutes. Councilmember Gutowsky
seconded. Motion passed 3-0-0

Selection of chair
Council member Canonico was selected as the new chair for the Futures committee.
Summary
• This Futures committee meeting focused on the Future of Futures and included a discussion of
o Topics that have been covered in the past
o What the Committee has liked about how the Futures committee is run
• Committee reviewed cadence of meetings and identified priority topics for the rest of the year
• Action items:
o Futures committee meetings are now meeting every other month on the second Monday
o Caryn Champine and staff will review topics and begin scheduling those that were
identified as priority topics.
The Future of Futures, Caryn Champine
• Review of 2022 Futures Committee topics with discussion of what worked well and what could
be improved for the Future
• When considering Futures topics:
o Consider what cultural elements are necessary to preserve so that they stay part of our
Future
• Thoughts about open format- more public participation
o Love seeing lots of participation.
o Consider having the State demographer come in on a more regular basis
• Should committee stay as a sub-committee of council?
• Benefit of Futures is that we bring in great thought partners- more thought based- look at the
frequency of these meetings
o Consider moving cadence to every other month
o Provide more time to bring in external folks and do more outreach to the committee
• Alliance for Innovation- Futurist on staff – see what they have
• Futures is plural- consider how we are ready for different Futures
o Focus on signals to be in tune with
o Consider looking back to look forward
o Uncover patterns
o Create a community
• Review of previously identified topics- organized by the 7 outcome areas and brainstormed
additional topics
o The Future of 15 minute Cities- what this means for work, infrastructure, business and
community development
o Future of talent: trends and futures- what this means for our City and Placemaking
o Future of Public Safety, police, Poudre Fire Authority
o New world of work- - awareness of new businesses/occupations that will be part of our
future
o Intersection of new world of work and how buildings are used at the City
o Future of Utilities and resources

o Misinformation and Democracy- how Cities are dealing with this at the local level.
o Future of retail (micro retail and how it connects to 15-minute communities
▪ Twitter- pushback about 15-minute communities

o Placemaking

o Elevation Community Land Trust (Future of Housing)
▪ Buy multiple homes to provide affordable housing options
