PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, National Donate Life Month raises awareness about organ, eye, and tissue
donation, encourages Americans to register as donors and honors those that have saved lives
through the gift of donation; and
WHEREAS, Colorado has the nation’s highest-performing state donor registry with 67%
of driver license/ID card applicants signing up to be organ and tissue donors—a decision that
reflects deep commitment to one another; and
WHEREAS, one donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and save and
heal more than 75 lives through tissue donation; and
WHEREAS, a record 234 organ donors and 642 life-saving transplants in 2021; that’s an
8.8% increase in organ donors and 3.3% increase in life saving transplants compared to 2020; and
WHEREAS, Donor Alliance recovered tissue for transplant from 2,082 donors; and
WHEREAS, there are 1,511 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in Colorado
and Wyoming. Of those waiting, 1,251 are waiting for a kidney—the organ most in need—and
156 are waiting for a liver; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. has officially surpassed 40,000 transplants in one year, a historic
first for the nation which is a testament to the lifesaving work being done daily by Donor Alliance
in Colorado and Wyoming and all organ procurement organizations across America; and
WHEREAS, Donor Alliance’s Donor Service Area serves 6.3 million residents and covers
184,151 square miles – this includes all of Colorado and most of Wyoming; and
WHEREAS, there has been a dramatic 56% decrease in deaths on the Colorado organ
transplant waitlist in the past 5 years (2016-2021).
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jeni Arndt, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim April 2022 as
NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
