RE: March 23, 2021, Work Session Summary Wastewater Utility Overview
June 8, 2021, Work Session Summary Water Utility Overview
This work session summary will cover both the Wastewater Utility Overview and the Water
Utility Overview since City Clerk staff noted that there was no document in the files for the
Wastewater Utility Overview. On March 23, 2021, staff presented a high-level overview of the
Wastewater Utility to City Council as the first update in a series of annual updates on each of the
four incumbent utilities to assure alignment with strategic direction and understanding of system
needs of each of the utilities. The Water Utility Overview was presented on June 8, 2021. The
overviews included a summary of customer satisfaction survey results, the infrastructure system,
challenges and opportunities to the system, financial status and a snapshot of the people that
make the service happen.
Council feedback on the Wastewater Overview included support for addressing the challenges
facing the wastewater system including addressing aging infrastructure, increasing regulatory
requirements for environmental performance of the system, customer engagement in programs
, as well as
support for o including
methane recovery and beneficial uses of nutrients as soil amendments at Meadow Springs Ranch.
Feedback received on the Water Utility Overview included support for incorporating a graywater
program into our water management programs, leveraging federal funding programs to address
water infrastructure needs, continuing to look at the pace of asset replacement, and considering a
realignment of budget offers for treatment and distribution of water to the Safe Community
versus Environmental Health budgeting outcome area.
Staff appreciates the direction, feedback and questions.
