HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES-04/13/1999-OrganizationalApril 13,1999 COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, COLORADO Council -Manager Form of Government Special Organizational Meeting - 6:00 p.m. A special organizational meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins was held on Tuesday, April 13,1999, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the City of Fort Collins City Hall. Roll Call was answered by the following Councilmembers: Azari, Bertschy, Byrne, Kneeland, Mason, Smith and Wanner. Staff Members Present: Fischbach, Krajicek, Roy. Oaths of Office - Newly Elected Mayor and Councilmembers City Clerk Krajicek administered the oaths of office to newly elected Mayor Ray Martinez, District 2 Councilmember KarenWeitkunat, District 4 Councilmember Kurt Kastein, and District 6 Councilmember Chuck Wanner. The newly elected Mayor and Councilmembers were seated. Mayor Martinez thanked those who worked on his campaign and spoke regarding the need for everyone to work together for the community. Roll Call for Newly Constituted Council Roll Call was answered by the following Councilmembers: Bertschy, Byrne, Kastein, Martinez, Mason, Wanner and Weitkunat. Election of Temporary Mayor Pro Tem Mayor Martinez stated that the Council needs to elect a Mayor Pro Tem to serve a two-year term and that the Council has the option to select a temporary Mayor Pro Tem to serve until the Council can elect the Mayor Pro Tem for the two-year term at next Tuesday's meeting. Councilmember Mason asked by there should be a delay in electing the Mayor Pro Tem. Mayor Martinez stated that the delay would give the newly seated Councilmembers an opportunity to get to know each other prior to election of the Mayor Pro Tem. 176 Apri113, 1999 Councilmember Byrne stated that four of the Councilmembers have experience on the Council and spoke in support of electing Councilmember Wanner as Mayor Pro Tem. Councilmember Byrne made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Bertschy, to elect Councilmember Wanner as Mayor Pro Tem. City Attorney Roy stated that the Charter provides that the election of the Mayor Pro Tem will occur a the first regular or special meeting after the election. He stated that this meeting could be adjourned to next Tuesday night to allow additional time for the choice to be made or that Council could take action at this meeting to elect the Mayor Pro Tem. Councilmember Byrne made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Bertschy, to amend the motion on the floor to elect Councilmember Wanner as temporary Mayor Pro Tem. The vote on the motion as amended was as follows: Yeas: Councilmembers Bertschy, Byrne, Kastein, Martinez, Mason, Wanner and Weitkunat. THE MOTION CARRIED. Adiournment Councilmember Wanner made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Weitkunat, to adjourn the meeting to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 1999. The vote on the motion was as follows: Yeas: Councilmembers Bertschy, Byrne, Kastein, Martinez, Mason, Wanner and Weitkunat. THE MOTION CARRIED. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m. ATTEST: 177
