Councilmembers Present: Mayor Arndt, Mayor Pro Tem Gorgol, Gutowsky, Pignataro, Canonico, Peel, Ohlson Presenting Staff: Jacqueline Kozak-Thiel and Josh Birks DIRECTION SOUGHT: 1. Does Council have any questions about the City’s engagement in the regional recovery planning process? 2. What challenges and/or opportunities does Council see in economic recovery? DISCUSSION SUMMARY: Council’s discussion covered the following points areas. General Themes: ƒ General appreciation for regional collaboration and work to date. ƒ Like the focus on the challenges and opportunities. ƒ Keep an eye on Federal Government funding and opportunities to coordinate regional with intentional solutions. ƒ Appreciate the recognition of the impacts on businesses of all sizes and industries. ƒ Businesses found innovative ways to stay in business and keep doors open – plan should include approached to support businesses keeping the things they tried and are working. Areas of Improvement: ƒ Include the Education to Employment pipeline and partnerships with Poudre School district and Front Range Community College. ƒ Consider including regional transit as an aspect of transportation infrastructure investment. ƒ Consider evaluating the impact of additional people working remotely on the local economy.          ƒ Increase the emphasis in the plan on the K-Shaped recovery. ƒ Concern about program redundancy and efficiency, how are we working on this regionally? ƒ Consider exploring the connection between the challenges listed (especially affordable housing and childcare) and continued economic growth. ƒ More emphasis on making the economy “better” not “bigger.” NEXT STEPS: ƒ Finish draft plan and share with City Council via email – Mid-June. ƒ Receive any feedback from Council to integrate into the plan – End of June. ƒ Share final plan with Council – July. ƒ The plan should be substantially complete in time to provide input into the City’s Recovery Plan. FOLLOW-UP: 1. Council would like to see the draft plan when available. 2. Council would like to have a break down of the total cost of the plan, who has contributed and how much.
