RE: Work Session Summary – December 22, 2020: Fort Collins Connexion Update

All Councilmembers attended via remote meeting. Staff provided an overview presentation
highlighting the history of the broadband initiative, current build and installation updates,
operational focuses, and anticipated timelines.
Council Discussion:
Appreciate update and improvements to metrics and data presentation. Discussion
about the overall story the graphs are telling. Data provided should illustrate how we are
reaching goal of implementation and completion. Information presented was a good
news items and provided clarity. More information will build confidence within the
community.
Overall conversation on progress, production averages, and anticipated progress to
meet an end of 2022 completion date.
Messaging of 6-9 months from construction to service availability is helpful.
Good to see progress, understand challenges, and communicate process and efficacy of
system.
Question of how to respond when residents do not know when service is coming (take
advantage of low rates and avoid more than a one-year contract.)
Digital Equity fund is building. Have established relationship with Neighbor 2 Neighbor
and will be building and offering service to residents in the near future. Encouragement
to work with Spanish-speaking parents to assist in learning and education challenges for
students.
Highlighted the scope of the project and the large number of crews out throughout the
city.
Hearing a lot of enthusiasm in the community.
Follow-up Items:
Continue to fine-tune data and storytelling to help both Council and the community
understand the project.
Consider an aggregated dashboard that could be easily accessible.
