HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 01/07/2020 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING JANUARY 2020 AS SLAVERY ANDPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, human trafficking is a multibillion-dollar criminal industry that denies freedom to an estimated 25.9 million people around the world; and WHEREAS, the Rocky Mountain Innocence Lost Task Force has recovered 612 minors since 2012, including some from Fort Collins and Northern Colorado; and WHEREAS, collaborative efforts are being made to create a multidisciplinary team and task force overseen by the FBI and Larimer County law enforcement; and WHEREAS, Colorado State University will host the second Northern Colorado Human Trafficking Symposium on February 6, 2020 to provide awareness and education to citizens, professionals and educators; and WHEREAS, this month we rededicate ourselves to assisting victims of Human Trafficking and combating it in all its forms; and WHEREAS, it is vital for citizens, businesses, faith communities, law enforcement and first responders to recognize the vital role they can and should play in preventing and eradicating all forms of slavery and human trafficking. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim the month of January 2020 as SLAVERY AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION MONTH IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort Collins this 7th day of January, A.D. 2020. __________________________________ Mayor ATTEST: _________________________________ City Clerk
