HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 09/17/2019 - PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF TPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of Poudre High School winning Colorado’s 1969 state football championship; and WHEREAS, Poudre High School entered the playoffs as extreme underdogs before winning four consecutive playoff games; and WHEREAS, the Impalas beat Cherry Creek, Arvada and Pueblo Central in their first three games to reach the school’s first championship game; and WHEREAS, the Impalas traveled across the state to take on Grand Junction in the championship game, prevailing by a score of 29-21; and WHEREAS, Poudre’s victory brought glory to all of Fort Collins and was celebrated across the city and state as a win for “the little guys;” and WHEREAS, the championship was the last won by a city high school, making this celebration even more appropriate and noteworthy; and WHEREAS, the Impalas’ championship will be celebrated on Friday night, September 27, at French Field against their oldest rival, Fort Collins High School; and WHEREAS, Poudre High School continues to excel in athletics, academics and community service as a proud representative of sustained excellence in Fort Collins. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins and proud alumnus and former football player for the Impalas, do hereby recognize POUDRE HIGH SCHOOL AND THE 1969 FOOTBALL TEAM for their memorable achievement.
