WHEREAS, volunteerism strengthens our community, helps solve vital social concerns
and enhances to overall quality of life for all our citizens. Many of our youth give generously of
their time by volunteering throughout our community, working within their schools and in
established organizations, as well as creating new and unique ways to help others on their own;
and
WHEREAS, Bethany Dykson, a senior at Fort Collins High School, has been selected as
one of Colorado’s top youth volunteers of 2017 and was named a Distinguished Finalist in the
2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program. She exemplifies the value of volunteer
community service and is a role model to other youth, as well as adults in our community; and
WHEREAS, Bethany has worked with her Key Club advisor since August 2015 to plan
a community garden and playground to transform a dirt lot into a safe gathering spot for
residents of a local trailer park. The playground and garden beds have been built and planting
will begin in May; and
WHEREAS, Bethany as president of the FCHS Key Club, recently helped with a
fundraiser for the Thirst Project, led the Adopt-A-Family project in her school at Christmastime,
and as a peer counselor works with SAVA to give sexual assault awareness presentations in her
school as well as at middle schools. Bethany has a passion for helping others and has
demonstrated her care for our community with these efforts. She plans to pursue other volunteer
opportunities during her college years at CSU.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim May 2, 2017 as
BETHANY DYKSON DAY
and commend Bethany for her outstanding volunteer contribution to others and our community.
