WORK SESSION ITEM
City Council
SUBJECT FOR DISCUSSION
Council Initiatives Dashboard.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of this item is to detail Council’s end-of-term accomplishments and progress on the
priorities/initiatives identified at their May 2017 retreat.
GENERAL DIRECTION SOUGHT AND SPECIFIC QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED
1. What questions or suggestions for improvement does City Council have regarding the process used to track
and report on their retreat priorities?
2. Does Council have any questions related to specific priorities or actions reported in the dashboard
BACKGROUND / DISCUSSION
In May of 2017, this City Council held a retreat to establish the priorities and initiatives they would focus on during
this two-year term, concluding in mid to late April of this year. Those priorities were formally adopted in Resolution
2017-056. Since that time, Council and staff have worked to advance those priorities through policy making,
budgeting, initiatives, projects, and administrative action. Milestones and progress made have been tracked using
the Council Initiatives Dashboard, which has been updated quarterly to provide status updates and highlight next
action items for City Council.
In years’ past, staff has provided Council with an end-of-term report, highlighting a variety of organizational
performance information and details on some of Council’s policy work that occurred during that two-year term.
Rather than provide such a report this year, staff is utilizing the final version of the Initiatives Dashboard and the
associated Work Session discussion to serve as an end-of-term report. Staff will be seeking Council’s feedback
on this approach as well as questions Council has about the Dashboard process or specific priorities during the
discussion.
Attachment 1 is the updated version of the Council Initiatives Dashboard. Staff has provided updates on where
the priorities stand as of March 18, 2019. This will be the last version of the dashboard with these priorities. Once
the next Council sits for their planning retreat, staff will populate a new dashboard with initial action plans.
