HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 06/05/2018 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING JUNE AS LGBTQ PRIDE MONTHPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, City Council and staff have committed to make Fort Collins an inclusive and welcoming community for all, including the LGBTQ community; and WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court ruled in June 2015 that same-sex couples can marry nationwide, establishing a new civil right in our country; and WHEREAS, former president Barack Obama designated the first national monument to LGBTQ rights in June 2016, honoring the LGBTQ community’s long-term presence and struggle for equality across our nation; and WHEREAS, all members of the Fort Collins community, including those who are LGBTQ, have the right to feel safe, not be discriminated against and not live with the threat of harassment; and WHEREAS, the City has established an LGBTQ liaison in both Police Services and Human Resources, as well as an LGBTQ advisory committee; and WHEREAS, the City has adopted equal employment partner health benefits and an inclusive employee nondiscrimination policy; and WHEREAS, supporting Fort Collins’ LGBTQ community also aligns with the City’s strategic objective to co-create a more inclusive and equitable community that promotes unity and honors diversity; and WHEREAS, the LGBTQ community has made great strides; however, equality, inclusion, and acceptance are not yet fully achieved. NOW THEREFORE, I, Gerry Horak, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby declare the month of June 2018 as LGBTQ PRIDE MONTH IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort Collins this 5th day of June, A.D. 2018. __________________________________ Mayor Pro Tem ATTEST: _________________________________ City Clerk
