WHEREAS, there are people in our community who do not have a warm, safe home of
their own, and who must endure harsh and life-threatening winter weather conditions due to lack
of consistent shelter; and
WHEREAS, a communitywide response to help those who need shelter is critical in our
city and to our future; and
WHEREAS, volunteer involvement and community investments strengthen our city by
providing resources to assist those experiencing homelessness and vulnerabilities of destitution;
and
WHEREAS, in the winter of 2016-2017, community and faith-based organizations,
nonprofits, colleges, City of Fort Collins staff, and dedicated individuals coordinated their
collective resources and gave selflessly to provide volunteer-driven, community-based winter
survival support to those in need in Fort Collins; and
WHEREAS, in an intentional, coordinated initiative, volunteers and organizations
collaboratively provided welcoming warming centers, safe and warm overnight shelter, street
outreach, transportation to needed services and shelters, timely emergency weather response, and
necessary clothing and essentials to endure the Colorado winter; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the accomplishments of the compassionate community of
volunteers and organizations in Fort Collins who provided vital refuge and respite for hundreds
of people in need this winter.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
recognize the outstanding voluntary commitments and contributions from the Fort Collins
community through programs such as Safe Place to Rest and the Emergency Weather Shelter
Plan which provide necessary care and interventions for people experiencing homelessness this
winter and who furthermore inspire our continued community efforts to do so.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
