HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 09/17/2019 - PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING A YEAR-LONG CELEBRATION OPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Governor Edward McCook in 1870, six years before the Colorado Territory achieved statehood, signed a territorial bill that utilized the Morrill Act to create the Agricultural College of Colorado, which would later become Colorado State University in Fort Collins; and WHEREAS, on February 11, 2020, Colorado State University celebrates 150 years of providing life-changing educational experiences to more than 190,000 living graduates; and WHEREAS, as Colorado’s only land grant institution, Colorado State University consistently ranks among the top public universities in the United States in terms of educational quality and affordability, and stands as one of the nation’s premier research universities, maintaining world-class programs in veterinary medicine, natural resources, agricultural science, and engineering; and WHEREAS, one in four of Colorado State University students are the first in their family to attend college; and WHEREAS, Colorado State University and Fort Collins have grown up together and partnered in making this city one of the nation’s most desirable places to live and work; and WHEREAS, Colorado State University is the largest employer and primary economic driver in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado; and WHEREAS, Colorado State University has the proud distinction of being Colorado’s first public institution of higher learning. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins and proud alumnus of Colorado State University, do hereby recognize this year-long celebration of the 150TH BIRTHDAY OF COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY and its role in improving the lives of the citizens of this city, this state and the world.
