WHEREAS, Native Americans enrich our community with their presence, their
contributions, their music, dance, art and customs and for 27 years, the Northern Colorado
Intertribal Powwow Association (NCIPA) has brought together Native Americans from the
western and midwestern states and Canada to celebrate their enduring culture of dance, music,
art and food. They have, for almost three decades, worked in cooperation with Poudre School
District, Colorado State University and other organizations to provide educational programing,
sharing Native American history and culture; and
WHEREAS, thousands of non-native citizens have had their lives and their
understanding and appreciation of American Indian culture enriched by their attendance at
NCIPA powwows, Indian markets and educational programs; and
WHEREAS, the Northern Colorado Intertribal Powwow Association has, each year, on a
continuing basis, provided material, social and cultural support for Native American families
living in the Fort Collins area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins, places great value on the many years of hard work
and leadership provided by the late Robert Iron (Pawnee/Crow) and Jan Iron (Navajo),
cofounders of NCIPA, as well as the many others who make the annual powwow possible; and
WHEREAS, the 2019 NCIPA Powwow will provide a venue for the celebration of
Native American culture, traditional values and educational opportunities for all who attend.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim April 13 and 14. 2019 as
FORT COLLINS POWWOW DAYS
and encourage all residents to attend, to learn and join in the celebration of Native American
culture.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
