HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 07/16/2019 - PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE 202PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the next Decennial Census will take place in 2020, and for the first-time residents can respond either online, by phone, or by mail in over 17 languages; and WHEREAS, an accurate census count is vital to determining where to locate schools, childcare centers, roads, public transportation, and other facilities, and for making decisions concerning business growth and housing needs; and WHEREAS, census data ensures fair Congressional representation in the U.S. House of Representatives and in redistricting state legislatures and other voting districts; and WHEREAS, billions of dollars in federal and state funding is allocated to states and communities based on census data; and WHEREAS, even a 1% undercount can amount to loss of representation and millions of dollars to the community; and WHEREAS, the 2020 Census will create hundreds of thousands of temporary jobs across the nation; and WHEREAS, the City is working in partnership with local businesses, Poudre School District, Colorado State University, the Fort Collins faith community, Larimer County United Way and local non-profits, the Library District, and regional neighbors; and WHEREAS, we believe every single person in Fort Collins counts. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim the kick-off of “NOCO COUNTS” and the importance of every resident participating in the 2020 Census.
