HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 03/06/2018 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING MARCH 2018 AS WOMEN'S HISTOPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, those who identify as women of every race, class, and ethnic background have contributed to the growth and strength of our community in countless recorded and unrecorded ways; and WHEREAS, women like Alice Waltrous, Fort Collins’ first school teacher in 1870, and Jovita Vallecillo Lobato, the first Latina woman to graduate from CSU in 1936, have helped to create the diverse fabric of our Fort Collins community; and WHEREAS, women have played and continue to play critical economic, cultural, and social roles in every sphere of life in our community; and WHEREAS, despite these contributions, the role of women in history has often been overlooked; and WHEREAS, National Women’s History Month provides an excellent opportunity for citizens to learn more about the work of local organizations that honor and make known the contributions that women in Fort Collins have made, including Zonta International of Fort Collins, The Archive at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, Colorado State University’s Women and Gender Advocacy Center, and the Fort Collins Historical Society. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby declare the month of March 2018 as WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH in the city of Fort Collins.
