WHEREAS, on behalf of the City of Fort Collins, I wish to extend our sincere
condolences over the passing of Tom Gleason on May 9, 2019. Tom was a humble man who led
by example and was one of the city’s most respected and influential business leaders; and
WHEREAS, Tom and Ginnie Gleason moved to Fort Collins in 1956, when he went to
work in the installment loan department at First National Bank. His career with First National
Bank lasted over four decades as he climbed the corporate ladder to become President, Chief
Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, until his retirement in 1994; and
WHEREAS, Tom always maintained a close relationship with local merchants and
throughout his career, helped finance much of Fort Collins’ growth, investing much of his energy
in building Fort Collins to what it is today; and
WHEREAS, Tom is remembered as a pillar of the community, devout Catholic, staunch
supporter of Fort Collins, CSU and the nonprofit community, a humble man who quietly reached
out to help those in need; and
WHEREAS, Tom was always involved in our community, serving on numerous boards,
including Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins Museum of Art and was a founding member of
the Boys and Girls Club of Fort Collins. He also was a charter member and avid supporter of
Colorado State University Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Tom loved his wife and family, friends and business partners, associates
and coworkers very much and consistently gave his all, working to make his hometown and
region better.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim July 2, 2019 as
TOM GLEASON DAY
to honor a man who had great vision and integrity, who loved Fort Collins and who believed in
the power of people coming together to accomplish great things.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
Collins this 2nd day of July, A.D. 2019.
