WHEREAS, charitable giving in the state of Colorado is critical to providing support
that nonprofit and charitable organizations need to make our state a desirable place to live; and
WHEREAS, the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado and Community First
Foundation have become partners with local nonprofits in an effort to increase charitable giving
in Colorado through a successful and innovative program called Colorado Gives Day; and
WHEREAS, in 2013, Colorado Gives Day raised $750,000 in Larimer County and $20.9
million statewide in a single 24-hour period via online donations. The website allows donors to
direct their contribution to one or more of over 120 nonprofit organizations listed on the site; and
WHEREAS, Colorado Gives Day is December 9 this year and Northern Colorado
residents are encouraged to participate because all donations, whether large or small, can make a
difference to nonprofits in need; and
WHEREAS, Colorado Gives Day serves as a time for Coloradoans to join together with
one voice on one day to contribute to and amplify the efforts of nonprofits; and
WHEREAS, the goal of uniting Coloradoans in support of these vital and hardworking
organizations is a worthy aspiration and will serve as a reminder that we all benefit from the
efforts of nonprofits.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Karen Weitkunat, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim December 9, 2014 as
COLORADO GIVES DAY
in the city of Fort Collins, and encourage all citizens to join in supporting this 24-hour online
event.
