WHEREAS, all children, regardless of their gender, race, religion, culture,
socioeconomic status or other demographics, are equally valuable assets in our community and a
highest priority for our future; and
WHEREAS, the Fort Collins community recognizes that the future success of any
community is largely reliant on the positive development and education of its children and that
the children of today will be the leaders of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, Fort Collins and organizations like Poudre River Public Library District
and the Early Childhood Advisory Council are working to provide and improve access to
essential resources, programs, and services for young children and their families that positively
affect their care, learning, and development; and
WHEREAS, Poudre River Public Library District and the Early Childhood Advisory
Council support community collaboration to create safe and healthy environments necessary for
all children to thrive and succeed; and
WHEREAS, Poudre River Public Library District provides children and their families
early literacy programs, diverse materials, and culturally authentic activities like El Día de los
Niños/the Day of the Child, which builds a foundation for children’s future success and helps
them develop understanding and respect for other people from diverse cultural and linguistic
backgrounds in Fort Collins.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim April 30, 2017, as
CHILDREN’S DAY
to recognize children of all cultures and backgrounds as one of our community’s most valuable
assets and the leaders of tomorrow. This day symbolically serves to encourage all citizens to
work to make a good investment in early childhood development and learning in Fort Collins by
giving hope, love, nurture, and commitment to all children.
