WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, Federal Highway Administration, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration have joined forces with the National Safety Council to launch the Road to Zero
coalition with the goal of ending fatalities on the nation’s roads within the next 30 years; and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Department of Transportation has established the Moving
Towards Zero Deaths Initiative to promote a vision of zero traffic-related fatalities and serious
injuries; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins shares the national and state commitment to
roadway safety for all users; and
WHEREAS, the City’s Traffic Operations Department, in partnership with Police
Services, collects, compiles, analyzes, reports, utilizes and monitors crash data to support safety;
and
WHEREAS, the number of serious injury crashes in the city has decreased in each of the
last three years (from 294 to 240); and
WHEREAS, the City actively administers programs, conducts community outreach, and
implements projects related to numerous emphasis areas of the State’s Strategic Highway Safety
Plan; and
WHEREAS, the City further supports safety through planning, education engineering,
construction, operation, maintenance, programming, and enforcement activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim the City of Fort Collins as a community committed to Moving Towards Zero Deaths
and partnering with the Colorado Department of Transportation in its Moving Toward Zero
Deaths Initiative through the State’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan.
